Went here because we had to rent a storage unit. Went here because the prices were extremely fair and the response via email was swift and extremely friendly. At about €120 per month for 30m³ it's a lot more interesting than most of their competitors. On top of that the flexibility shown here is nothing short of amazing. Its not big enough? Rent a bigger one or rent 2 at only a slightly higher price. The options are almost limitless. You have access 7 days per week from 6AM to 10PM. You can drive a van only a slight bit inside though, the rest has to be done through carts which are available. In overall would definitely recommend.
A warning to anyone moving between the Netherlands and Curacao: We moved from Amsterdam to Curacao a few months ago and used Derksen Verhuizingen for the move. We were misled by their quite expensive rates (more than double their closest competitor) into believing that this would translate into extraordinary service. Nothing could be farther from the truth. After our belongings were delivered we tried to submit a claim for an antique closet that had obviously been damaged by one of the packers in Amsterdam. We paid Derksen for insurance to cover damages or loss but they wouldn’t process the claim. Instead we were told that the movers in Amsterdam said they had found the antique closet already damaged. Even when I sent a photograph taken of the closet in perfect condition taken just days prior to the move the claim was rejected. (From an email dated June 28, 2022: We have checked this with the packers and they confirm that this piece of wood was already loose and on a shelf in the antique closet. That is why they packed in with the parts in paper. So it was not knocked off by our packers, otherwise they should have mentioned this and registered it.”) Every other claim of loss and damage (assorted books, kitchen items, work supplies, luggage, furniture parts) was also rejected out of hand. It is a very unpleasant feeling when dealing with a company to be called a liar whenever you try to argue your case. And this happened repeatedly whenever we complained about mistakes in the car documents, shoddy packing that delayed our unpacking, items that were lost, and goods that arrived damaged. Derksen’s agent in Curacao, Caribbean Moving Services, confirmed in writing that all boxes would be unpacked and then removed. When the movers left only the big items of furniture were unpacked. Derksen claimed “It is correct that unpacking of the boxes is for client, that’s normal and was also not mentioned in our Quotation. That they packed them so high that you cannot reach them is not very smart.” In Curacao we were promised otherwise: “All packing material will be removed from the furniture, and we will, if you wish so, take along all the boxes. (please be informed that items from the boxes will be placed on the nearest flat surface and not in closest’ s, cub boards and or shelves”. In the past 50 years we have moved internationally as well as locally and used many different moving companies This is a situation we have never encountered and would want others to be able to avoid as well.
It took over 3 months for our belongings to arrive in the Caribbean, in the meantime they couldn't even tell us where our shipment was located. They charge a surcharge fee that is 10x the actual price.
Super service
We used Derksen Removals on August 15th. During the move, we repeatedly stated that the table had to be moved through the double garden doors and wouldn't fit through the front door. They said it was possible. Unfortunately, it wasn't, and the table was damaged. There are dents in the coffee tables, streaks on the freshly painted walls, and the corners of a desk are damaged because they balanced it on the corner. They also placed the garden furniture directly on the mattress without any protection, causing muddy water to leak into our mattress. We only requested compensation (according to their insurance) for the table and the paint for the walls. After almost two months of radio silence, we had to demand payment and state that we would take legal action before receiving any compensation. Regarding the move: nice guys, but not too frugal with their belongings, as it turns out. As for the handling when something does happen: an absolute disappointment and a reason never, ever to recommend them.
